Mumbai: HDFC Bank has launched ‘Vigil Aunty Says – Laziness Saves’, a fraud awareness campaign aimed at encouraging customers to pause before making impulsive decisions while conducting digital transactions.
Ahead of India’s 80th Independence Day, the campaign brings together Vigil Aunty, HDFC Bank’s social media influencer focused on digital fraud awareness, and seven leading stand-up comedians to deliver the message that pausing before responding to suspicious requests can help prevent fraud.
The seven-episode comedy special will begin streaming exclusively on JioHotstar from August 15, 2026. The campaign focuses on a common tactic used across digital frauds — creating a sense of urgency to push victims into making quick decisions.
From fake OTP requests and phishing links to digital arrest scams, fraudsters often rely on panic and immediate reactions. Through the campaign, HDFC Bank encourages consumers to adopt a simple precautionary habit: when confronted with a suspicious request, pause rather than react in haste.
The series features stand-up comedians Aakash Gupta, Gaurav Kapoor, Ramkumar Natarajan, Harsh Gujral, Sonu Venugopal, Munawar Faruqui and Kenny Sebastian.

Ravi Santhanam, Chief Marketing Officer & Group Head, HDFC Bank, said, “Fraudsters use panic and urgency to manipulate people into making quick mistakes. ‘Vigil Aunty Says – Laziness Saves’ intends to talk to audiences in a language they love – comedy. Vigil Aunty, along with India’s top stand-up comedians, will spread awareness on the modus operandi used by fraudsters. We are delighted to leverage the network of JioHotstar in this endevaour to reach a wide audience to share the message of staying alert while transacting on digital platforms.”
Conceptualised by HDFC Bank’s creative agency FCBKinnect, the pan-India initiative is aimed at users of digital banking and online payments. While the campaign is designed with Gen Z and digital-first audiences in mind, its fraud prevention message is intended to resonate across age groups.
By using entertainment and comedy, the campaign seeks to make digital fraud awareness more relatable, memorable and shareable. The initiative also aims to reach consumers through platforms where they already spend time consuming entertainment.
Vigil Aunty is a fictional character created by HDFC Bank to simplify cyber safety and fraud awareness through a conversational approach. The character currently has more than 2.2 million followers across social media platforms.
Through ‘Vigil Aunty Says – Laziness Saves’, HDFC Bank aims to reinforce safer digital transaction habits and encourage consumers to take a moment before responding to potentially fraudulent communications
