New Delhi: NDTV has unveiled a refreshed brand identity, dropping the ‘24×7’ suffix from its flagship news brand and repositioning itself simply as NDTV, with the new brand promise ‘When It Really Matters’ at the centre of its editorial and visual identity.
The rebranding reflects the changing way audiences consume news, with television no longer serving as the sole destination for breaking and continuing coverage. News now reaches audiences through websites, apps, social media, streaming services and Connected TV, often with users moving between platforms during the course of a single story.
Against this backdrop, NDTV said the move from NDTV 24×7 to NDTV is intended to make the brand platform-neutral, bringing its television and digital properties under a more unified identity.
The new positioning also seeks to define more clearly what NDTV believes its role should be in an increasingly crowded information environment. With audiences exposed to a constant flow of breaking news, commentary and instant reactions, the broadcaster said journalism must go beyond delivering information and help audiences understand the significance and consequences of events.
The thought ‘When It Really Matters’ is built around three questions: What does this change? Whose lives will it affect? And why does it matter? NDTV said these questions will serve as an editorial lens for determining which stories require sustained attention and deeper context.

Speaking about the transformation, Rahul Kanwal, CEO and Editor-in-Chief, NDTV, said the significance of the ‘24×7’ descriptor had changed since the channel was launched.
“When NDTV 24×7 was launched, 24×7 described something significant — the arrival of round-the-clock television news. Today, news is consumed everywhere and all the time. Audiences may encounter NDTV on television, on our app or website, on social media, on Connected TV or on platforms that are still emerging. In that world, 24×7 describes a medium. NDTV describes the brand. ‘When It Really Matters’ sharpens what we want that brand to stand for.”
He added: “In a world overflowing with information, journalism must help people understand not only what is happening, but what deserves their attention and why. We are building the next NDTV on the trust and journalistic foundations of the last three decades, while designing it for the India of today and the world ahead.”
The rebrand comes as the Indian news audience becomes younger and increasingly connected, while having access to a wider range of information sources. NDTV said this environment requires news organisations to balance speed with context, access with perspective and immediacy with the ability to avoid premature conclusions.

Shiv Aroor, Managing Editor, NDTV, said the new positioning would provide an editorial framework amid what he described as the competing chaos surrounding news consumption.
“At a time when news is often obscured by competing chaos, ‘When It Really Matters’ gives us a clear editorial compass. It is a reminder to separate what commands attention from what carries genuine significance, and to remain focused on the stories, questions and consequences that deserve the attention of the public. That sense of purpose will guide the way NDTV reports, interprets and stays with the news that truly matters.”
The refreshed identity extends beyond the name change, with NDTV introducing a renewed visual language across its television and digital platforms. The broadcaster said the objective is to create a more consistent expression of the brand as the distinction between television and digital news continues to narrow.
The change marks a new phase for NDTV, which has spent more than three decades building its presence in Indian news media. While retaining the trust and journalistic foundations associated with the brand, the organisation is seeking to present a simpler identity suited to a media environment where audiences increasingly consume news across multiple screens and platforms.
The transition from NDTV 24×7 to NDTV, therefore, represents not merely a shortening of the brand name but an attempt to redefine the organisation around a broader, platform-agnostic proposition.
With ‘When It Really Matters’, NDTV is positioning its next chapter around clarity, context and editorial judgement — with one brand intended to connect its television, digital and emerging-platform presence.
