Chennai: Sony Vizha has unveiled Tamil Idol, the first-ever Tamil edition of the globally recognised singing competition format, with music composer A.R. Rahman leading the search for the next extraordinary singing talent from Tamil Nadu.
The announcement follows the recently revealed collaboration between Sony Vizha and A.R. Rahman. The new musical reality show will focus on discovering and nurturing emerging singers, while celebrating performance, stage presence and the transformative power of music.
Produced by Fremantle India, Tamil Idol will be available across Sony Vizha and Sony LIV, bringing together an international entertainment format with Tamil talent and cultural storytelling across television and digital platforms.
A.R. Rahman has announced that auditions for Tamil Idol will open on August 18, inviting aspiring singers from across Tamil Nadu to participate through the Sony LIV app.
Speaking about the show, A.R. Rahman said, “The search for new voices is at the heart of music, voices that go on to reach millions. Through this journey, we uncover new talent, fresh perspectives, and the untold stories of generations. With Tamil Idol, for the very first time, we bring together the extraordinary voices of Tamil Nadu and give them a platform to be celebrated.”
Online Auditions Open on Sony LIV
Aspiring singers can audition for Tamil Idol from anywhere through the Sony LIV app. Participants need to select the Tamil Idol Audition section, complete the registration process by providing their personal details, and upload three videos demonstrating their versatility across different singing genres.
With auditions beginning on August 18, Sony Vizha is set to embark on a statewide search for the first-ever Tamil Idol, bringing emerging voices from across Tamil Nadu to a larger platform.
