Mumbai: July 2026 was dominated by big-ticket releases at the Indian domestic box office says Ormax Media. Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Jana Nayagan, and The Odyssey were the biggest contributors for the month, followed by Hindi film Dhamaal 4. The top four films alone accounted for 81% of the month’s total gross collections, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day contributing 40% of the month’s total collections on its own.
International films have crossed Rs. 1,424 Crores so far in 2026. With this momentum, the year is now poised to become the best-ever year for International films at the domestic box office. The current record is held by 2019 at Rs. 1,595 Crores.
For the first time in 2026, Hindi cinema’s share fell below 40%. The shift came as International cinema gained significant ground in July, recording a 17% share — the highest ever. By comparison, International cinema’s share in 2019 stood at 15%. The report notes that the performance of Avengers: Doomsday later this year will decide whether 2026 can overtake that 2019 benchmark.
The first six months of 2026 grossed Rs. 6,398 Crores at the domestic box office, making it the highest-grossing first half of any year since the pandemic. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has also climbed to become the second-highest grossing film of the year in India, after Dhurandhar: The Revenge.
The Top 10 for July reflects a broad language spread. Hindi films continue to lead with four titles in the list. Two International films feature, along with two Telugu and two Tamil releases.
For language share, the report assigns multi-language Indian films to their respective languages. For International films from Hollywood and other global markets, collections across all dubbed versions are reported under the single head ‘International’.
Gross Box Office has been used as the unified measure across industries, even though different language markets report in Gross, Nett or Share. For films still running in theatres at the time of publishing, collections are estimated based on current trends and may be updated in the next report.
This edition also includes Ormax Cinematix’s box office forecasts for all major July 2026 releases compared with their actual opening numbers.
Among newer titles, Maa Inti Bangaaram posted gross domestic collections of Rs. 72 Crores and has emerged as a significant theatrical success.
