Starring the talented actor-dancer extraordinaire Aaron Kwok, as the lead, The Monkey King 2 is the story of Tang Sanzang (Feng Shaofeng) who sets out on a quest to the Thunder Monastery in India to collect Buddha’s scriptures. Along this journey, a few men try and reach the scriptures and the movie traces the various hurdles they face along the way. With an ensemble cast including Gong Li, Feng Shaofeng, Xiaoshenyang, Fei Xiang, Him Law and Kelly Chen, the film has been praised for its production design and amazing picturization which has broken all previously set benchmarks.
Having been imprisoned under the Five Fingers Mountain for 500 years Sun Wukong’s (Aaron Kwok), and freed by a young Buddhist monk Tang Sanzang (Feng Shaofeng), their journey to the Thunder Monastery in India commences together. Along the way, Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, learns that he has to protect the monk, being bound to this duty by a charmed headband. Soon the duo crosses paths with Zhu Bajie (Xiaoshenyang), an immoral pig demon, and Sha Wujing (Him Law), a djinn-like monk. Together, they travel to the Yun Hai Xi Kingdom, a land scared of the White Bone Demon (Gong Li) who snatches children. As the demoness gets to know about Sanzang, she decides to disguise herself an old woman to get her hands on him and attain eternal demon-hood. However, she fails at her attempts.
When the group arrives at the kingdom’s capital, the King (Fei Xiang) urges Sanzang to eliminate the bloodthirsty demoness from their land, leading to a battle.
