Directed and written by Alê Abreu, the movie brings his imagination alive with breathtakingly beautiful visuals and a refreshing storyline.
Boy and the World opens with a young boy, Cuco, who is having the time of his life at his family’s farm. He spends most of his time climbing trees, playing with animals and frolicking in blue waters. One fine day, his father picks up his suitcase and hops on a train to a far-away town to earn a dime or two. Missing his father terribly, Cuco embarks on an adventurous quest to reunite his family. And that is how the young boy’s journey unfolds! In the big city, he’s hit with a wave of confusion and shock as he experiences the perils of industrialization. Maneuvering his way through the machines and strange creatures in the city, Cuco is determined to fulfill his sole purpose.
With 13 prestigious award wins and 8 nominations, including an Academy Award, Boy and the world, on one side beautifully portrays a young heart thriving in sweet innocence, while on the other, it showcases a naive mind learning the dangers of progress!
