New Delhi: City of Joy turns into City of Sorrow with the monsoon season hitting Kolkata, posing problems to the residents of the city. Highlighting the ever increasing difficulties for the local residents of Kolkata during monsoon, CNN-News18 is bringing a special series #KolkataCrumbling to highlight the current miserable condition of the city due to the heavy rains.
The heavy rains in the city has led to disruption in commutation and transportation due to potholed roads and fallen trees. Furthermore, metro construction work is hampering the travel for the people in Kolkata. The repair work in the city also becomes a tedious and cumbersome as the loose Gangetic soil which is the very foundation of Kolkata, adds to the problems.
CNN-News18 is doing a weeklong special series, which highlights the grief of commuters due to failed and inadequate infrastructure of the city during the peak monsoon season. In the weeklong series, our reporters, who are present in the city, would bring forth the ground reality of Kolkata and the problems that people in the city are facing while commuting from place to place.
