New Delhi: India TV Speed News, a news and broadcasting channel, recently hosted the much-anticipated ‘Wellness Weekend,’ bringing together top health experts, cardiologists, orthopedists, endocrinologists, and psychiatrists. The event featured insightful discussions designed to inspire positive lifestyle changes and greater health awareness among viewers.

The first session was led by Dr. Dheeraj Dubey, Senior Consultant, Joint Replacement Surgery at Shalby Hospital, Professor Prashant Kumar Patra, Dean of SOA Group Hospital, and Dr. Sameer Bhati, a renowned public health expert. The panel emphasized the vital role of sleep, diet, and exercise in maintaining good health. Dr. Bhati particularly highlighted the growing issue of sleep deprivation among youth and its long-term impact on overall well-being.

Another significant discussion was led by Dr. Ashok Seth, Chairman of Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, who focused on the alarming rise in heart attacks in India. “Heart attacks have increased by 50% over the last 15 years, and even individuals under 50 are at risk,” said Dr. Seth. He attributed this trend to sedentary lifestyles, smoking, poor diets, excessive alcohol consumption, stress, hypertension, and high cholesterol. He further recommended at least 200 minutes of brisk walking per week to reduce the risk of heart attacks by 25%.

Ritu Dhawan, Managing Director and CEO of India TV, remarked, “Well-being is the cornerstone of a fulfilling life, and with ‘Wellness Weekend,’ we aim to empower our audiences with expert insights on physical and mental health. This initiative is our commitment to fostering a healthier society by bringing together medical experts and fitness enthusiasts to inspire meaningful lifestyle changes. Through engaging discussions and interactive sessions, we hope to make wellness more achievable.”

A crucial session featured Dr. Balbir Singh, Group Chairman, Cardiac Sciences at Max Saket, who addressed common misconceptions about angiography, angioplasty, and bypass surgery. He also emphasized advancements in stent technology, post-procedure medication, and the circumstances where bypass surgery becomes essential.

Dr. Ambrish Mithal, Chairman and Head of Endocrinology and Diabetes at Max Healthcare, led a discussion on diabetes, emphasizing the importance of annual blood sugar tests from the age of 25. “In India, diabetes is largely attributed to genetics, excess weight, and poor dietary habits,” Dr. Mithal stated, reinforcing the need for early diagnosis and lifestyle modifications.

Dr. Amarender Singh Puri, Vice Chairman, IDHS, Medanta, shed light on gut health, explaining that maintaining a balanced ecosystem of good and bad bacteria is essential. “A healthy gut supports digestion in youth, but its ability to function optimally declines with age,” he noted, stressing the need for proactive gut health management.

Dr. Sanjeev Saxena further elaborated on kidney health, highlighting symptoms such as fatigue, swollen feet, and high blood pressure as early indicators of kidney disease. He advised reducing salt intake to 5 grams per day for healthy individuals and 2.5 grams for those with hypertension. “Drinking 2.5 to 3 liters of water daily can help prevent kidney-related ailments,” he added.

The event concluded with a session by Dr. Gopichand Khilnani, Chairman of the Institute of Pulmonary at PSRI, who discussed lung health and air pollution concerns. “India’s Air Quality Index (AQI) remains hazardous, particularly in cities like Delhi, Kanpur, and Kolkata,” he warned. He also pointed out the long-term respiratory effects of excessive steroid use during COVID-19, which has contributed to an increase in cases of asthma, bronchitis, and pulmonary fibrosis.

As a prominent media organization, India TV continues its mission to create awareness and empower individuals with accessible health-based knowledge. Through initiatives like ‘Wellness Weekend,’ the channel remains committed to ensuring viewers can make informed health decisions for a better, healthier future.
