Only 3% of companies achieve cross-functional AI synergy; marketing and IT co-innovation is crucial for thriving in the AI era: Bounteous x Accolite Study

Chennai: Organizations that prioritize innovation and collaboration are twice as likely to achieve double-digit growth, according to a new global study released by Bounteous x Accolite, a digital transformation consultancy. The report emphasizes that aligning marketing and IT leadership is no longer optional but a business imperative in the AI-first economy.

Titled “Stronger Together: CIOs and CMOs Must Align to Win”, the white paper draws on insights from over 1,000 global decision-makers, including CIOs, CMOs, and leaders in IT, digital transformation, and customer engagement. It highlights the transformative power of cross-functional collaboration and co-innovation in driving growth, efficiency, and superior customer experiences.

Key Findings:

Shared Goals, Siloed Execution:

While CIOs and CMOs agree on their top three priorities—enhancing customer experience, improving operational efficiency, and boosting revenue—execution remains fragmented. A staggering 71% of AI tools are being developed in departmental silos, and only 3% of companies have cross-functional teams managing AI strategy, leading to unclear KPIs and inconsistent customer engagement.

AI Investment vs. Adoption:

Despite 84% of companies increasing AI and data spending in 2025, with 73% planning to invest over $1 million in generative AI, nearly 60% still struggle with data integration, adoption, and tech consolidation, revealing a significant gap between investment and measurable outcomes.

Collaboration as a Competitive Edge:

Companies that foster strong CIO-CMO partnerships report compelling results—95% noted improved customer experiences, and 93% saw faster innovation cycles. These organizations benefit from leaner tech stacks, greater personalization, and a cohesive omnichannel strategy. However, many firms continue to miss out due to misaligned goals and fragmented infrastructure.

Speed, Agility, and Co-Innovation Define Leaders:

The report reveals that digital trailblazers—those who commit early and co-innovate—are nearly twice as likely to achieve double-digit growth. In contrast, laggards often cite poor digital transformation as a top reason for missed revenue targets. Trust and solution relevance also matter deeply—95% of decision-makers value trusted transformation partners, and 92% prioritize effectiveness over cost or speed.
