Mumbai: In a pioneering leap for entertainment and storytelling, internationally acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kapur has announced his latest project — WARLORD, a sci-fi series entirely created using GenAI. Serving as writer, director, and producer, the Padma Bhushan awardee (Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Academy Award-recognised) has teamed up with Mumbai-based AI filmmaking company Studio Blo to build an ambitious cinematic universe that merges science fiction, fantasy, and a profound love story.
At the heart of WARLORD lies a central question: “Can love exist across dimensions?” The teaser released offers a surreal and evocative preview — a jellyfish-shaped spaceship hovering over an alien world, a glowing woman dissolving into energy, and a shadowy figure witnessing it all — capturing the emotional depth and visual grandeur the series promises.
“Finally with AI, we have the ability to compete with the huge Hollywood blockbusters,” says Shekhar Kapur. “But more importantly, we now have the tools to imagine stories that go beyond dimensions of time, space, and even consciousness. Warlord is not just a sci-fi series; it’s a living universe. A place where creators around the world can participate, build, and dream together. With AI, we’re no longer bound by the limitations of traditional filmmaking, we can now tell deeply personal stories on an infinite canvas.”
Beyond the screen, WARLORD is envisioned as the cornerstone of a multiverse IP. Kapur has announced that the production design and characters from the series will be open for global creators to reuse, adapt, and remix. For just one cent per use, and under the condition that their adaptations are also open source, users can contribute to this ever-expanding narrative universe — described by Kapur as a “rainforest of ideas.”
“Shekhar Kapur came to us with a series of impossibilities,” said Dipankar Mukherjee, Co-Founder & CEO of Studio Blo. “Right from the idea of a complete series made entirely with AI, to the visionary concept of distributed IP ownership. He pushed us to reinvent how we were building our tech and how we were approaching storytelling.”
WARLORD represents not just a breakthrough in AI-led production, but also a reimagining of creative ownership, access, and participation. As Kapur puts it, the series is a place “where imagination becomes the only limit.”
The project further cements Kapur’s legacy as a visionary filmmaker who blends storytelling with bold innovation. Known for iconic films like Masoom, Mr. India, Bandit Queen, and the Oscar-nominated Elizabeth, Shekhar Kapur continues to break new ground — this time, with artificial intelligence as his canvas.
