Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar come together for Tanishq’s ode to natural diamonds

Mumbai: Tanishq, a jewellery retail brand from the Tata Group, has unveiled its latest television commercial celebrating the enduring value, authenticity and emotional significance of natural diamonds. Conceptualised by Kommune, the film is part of Tanishq’s ongoing narrative around natural diamonds and spotlights the brand’s Soulmate Diamond Pair.

Rooted in the real-life relationship of Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar, the film marks the legendary couple’s first on-screen collaboration. It presents an intimate, thoughtful conversation between two individuals bound by deep connection and individuality, drawing a subtle parallel between enduring human relationships and natural diamonds — rare, irreplaceable and timeless.

The narrative unfolds through an affectionate exchange where familiarity, compatibility and contrast coexist effortlessly. Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar reflect on assumptions surrounding their marriage, shared sensibilities and creative alignment, while also embracing their differences through gentle humour. The film culminates in a powerful moment with the reveal of the Soulmate Diamond Pair, crafted from a single billion-year-old natural diamond, symbolising a bond that transcends time.

Designed to reinforce what sets natural diamonds apart, the campaign highlights rarity as a source of meaning. As design sensibilities evolve, natural diamonds continue to represent permanence, emotional depth and authenticity — values increasingly sought by consumers when choosing symbols of love and commitment.

Alongside this film, Tanishq has introduced additional narratives focused on trust, transparency and consumer education. These stories showcase the brand’s Diamond Expertise Centres, which enable customers to evaluate diamonds using advanced tools that assess origin, light performance and authenticity, reinforcing informed and confident purchase decisions.

Speaking on the launch, Pelki Tshering, Chief Marketing Officer, Tanishq, said, “For certain moments, relationships and milestones, only a natural diamond will do. Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar represent this beautifully through a bond that is truly unique and has grown richer with individuality and time.
