Mumbai: Asian Paints shareholders have approved the appointment of Godrej Consumer Products (GCPL) Managing Director and CEO Sudhir Sitapati as an independent director on the company’s board.
The approval was secured at Asian Paints’ 80th Annual General Meeting held on July 9, with the company disclosing the outcome in regulatory filings to the BSE and NSE on July 10.
Sitapati will serve a five-year term from May 29, 2026, to May 28, 2031. He had earlier joined the board as an additional and independent director following his appointment in May.
Currently the Managing Director and CEO of GCPL, Sitapati has led the FMCG company since 2021, overseeing its strategic transformation across emerging markets. Before joining GCPL, he spent more than two decades at Hindustan Unilever, where his last role was Executive Director, Foods and Refreshments.
Sitapati also chairs the CII FMCG Committee and is the author of The CEO Factory.
At the AGM, shareholders also cleared the reappointment of Milind Sarwate as an independent director for a second consecutive five-year term, running from October 21, 2026, to October 20, 2031.
Sarwate brings over four decades of experience across finance, corporate governance, audit, risk management and board oversight. He currently serves as an independent director on the boards of companies including CEAT and Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services, and has previously held leadership roles at Godrej Consumer Products and Marico.
Asian Paints said both resolutions were passed with the requisite majority.
