Mumbai: Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) India has strengthened its Financial Advisory and Special Situations practice with the appointment of Arpito Mukerji as Managing Director. In his new role, Mr. Mukerji will spearhead the development of the firm’s Debt Financing vertical in India.
With over three decades of experience across private credit, banking, and real estate, Mukerji brings extensive expertise in value-driven and distressed investing. His career spans strategic engagements with capital providers and corporates across the investment spectrum — from conventional banking to complex structured credit. He has a proven track record in originating, managing, and exiting high-impact investments across asset classes and geographies.
A&M’s structured finance and private credit advisory platform plays a pivotal role in addressing capital dislocations in sectors such as real estate, infrastructure, metals & mining, renewables, and special situations. In India alone, private credit deployment has averaged $7–8 billion annually across 200+ deals over the last two years. Leveraging its deep investor relationships and a history of landmark transactions, the firm delivers tailored debt solutions to clients with complex funding requirements.
Prior to joining A&M, Mukerji was Managing Director and part of the founding investment team at Apollo Global Management’s Asia Real Estate Group, where he led marquee real estate transactions across India. He also co-founded Rezone Investment Advisors and has held senior leadership roles at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, UBS, Dell Corporation, GE Capital, and ABN AMRO Bank.
Himanshu Bajaj, Managing Director & Head – A&M India and GCC, said, “India is entering a pivotal phase where access to tailored capital solutions is becoming a strategic imperative for businesses. The surge in private credit activity, combined with evolving real estate capital requirements, is creating a fertile environment for innovative financing structures. Arpito’s deep sectoral expertise and ability to navigate both investor and borrower ecosystems will help deliver solutions that accelerate our clients’ growth.”
Nikhil Shah, Managing Director and Financial Advisory & Special Situations Leader, added, “Arpito’s appointment reflects our focus on expanding A&M’s financial advisory offering in India across the private capital lifecycle. His deep investing and structuring expertise complement our capabilities in special situations and debt advisory. We are confident that his experience will help unlock long-term value creation for clients seeking innovative credit solutions.”
Commenting on his appointment, Arpito Mukerji, Managing Director, A&M India, said, “The Indian private credit landscape is maturing rapidly, marked by growing investor appetite for yield, and a shift towards bespoke, risk-calibrated structures. At the same time, real estate markets are evolving beyond traditional models, driven by institutional capital and regulatory evolution. A&M’s global network, trusted advisory model, and commitment to execution excellence make it an ideal platform to serve the dynamic needs of businesses today. I look forward to scaling our Private Credit and Real Estate advisory practice in India.”
