Mumbai: Amid the government’s sweeping action against 25 OTT platforms for streaming obscene and vulgar content, Balaji Telefilms Limited has issued an official clarification distancing itself from one of the banned platforms, ALTT.
In a strongly worded statement titled “To Whomsoever It May Concern,” Balaji Telefilms clarified that ALTT has been under its operational control only since June 20, 2025, following a court-approved amalgamation with ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd., its previously wholly owned subsidiary. The company emphasized that prominent media personalities Ms. Ekta Kapoor and Mrs. Shobha Kapoor are no longer associated with ALTT in any capacity.
“Media reports have been in circulation about ALTT being disabled by the authorities. However, contrary to such reports, Ms. Ekta Kapoor and Mrs. Shobha Kapoor are not associated in any capacity whatsoever with ALTT, and they had stepped down from their association with ALTT way back in June 2021. Any insinuation contrary to the above facts is strongly denied and media is requested to report the accurate facts,” the company stated.
Ekta Kapoor also shared the clarification on her social media platform with the caption: “To whomsoever it may concern.”
The statement came after the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting directed internet service providers to block access to 25 OTT platforms found in violation of various laws. The list includes ALTT, ULLU, Desiflix, Big Shots App, Boomex, Kangan App, Bull App, and several others allegedly involved in streaming pornographic or obscene content.
Reinforcing its commitment to legal and ethical standards, Balaji Telefilms added: “The company is fully compliant with all applicable laws and continues to operate its business with the highest standards of corporate governance.”
The move by the government signals a tightening of content regulation in India’s fast-growing digital entertainment space, and platforms with questionable content are now under intense scrutiny.
