Mumbai: Dentsu has appointed seasoned legal professional Bishwarup Chakrabarti as its General Counsel for South Asia, strengthening the group’s legal and governance leadership across the region.
Chakrabarti announced the move on LinkedIn, confirming his transition from Eros Media World PLC, where he most recently served as General Counsel. In his post, he said he was “pleased to share” that he had joined Dentsu, and reflected on a two-decade career across the media, entertainment and digital ecosystem, shaped by working with high-performing teams and navigating complex regulatory environments. He also expressed enthusiasm about beginning this new chapter with Dentsu’s leadership and teams.
Chakrabarti joined Eros Digital in 2020 as Legal Head and was subsequently elevated to General Counsel at Eros Media World PLC. In this role, he oversaw key legal functions including mergers and acquisitions (M&A), public policy, regulatory strategy and corporate governance during a period of significant transition for the company.
Before Eros, he was Associate Vice President at Sony Pictures Networks India, where he handled a wide spectrum of legal and compliance matters. He also served as Associate Director at Viacom18, further deepening his exposure to India’s broadcast and entertainment landscape.
Earlier in his career, Chakrabarti worked with leading law firms including Krishna & Saurastri and Paras Kuhad & Associates, building a strong foundation in corporate and commercial law.
With over 15 years of experience, Chakrabarti is known for delivering strategic legal solutions aligned with business objectives. His areas of expertise include corporate law, compliance, risk management, intellectual property and regulatory affairs across sectors such as technology, media and e-commerce.
Academically, he is a graduate of University of Calcutta and holds an LL.M. from National Law School of India University, Bengaluru.
At Dentsu, Chakrabarti is expected to play a key role in supporting the group’s growth ambitions in South Asia, working closely with business leaders on governance, risk and strategic initiatives across markets.
