Mumbai Indian cricketer Ajinkya Rahane, captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders, has been appointed as the newest member of the Rainforest Alliance’s global Ambassador Program, becoming the first professional athlete to ever join the initiative.
The Rainforest Alliance’s Ambassador Program brings together influential individuals from diverse industries who share a commitment to creating a more sustainable world by using social and market forces to protect nature and improve the lives of farmers and forest communities. With around 20 ambassadors currently in the program globally, Rahane’s inclusion marks a significant milestone, especially for the Indian subcontinent.
Rahane’s deep-rooted connection to sustainable agriculture—evident through his ground-level work with farmers in Maharashtra—makes him an ideal choice for this role. As an ambassador, he will champion causes related to environmental conservation, sustainability, and responsible consumer behavior, helping the Rainforest Alliance amplify its mission across new and highly engaged audiences, particularly in India.
His appointment also signals a powerful confluence between sports and sustainability, motivating fans and the general public to be more mindful of their environmental footprint.

Santiago Gowland, CEO of the Rainforest Alliance, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, “Ajinkya is a stellar example of someone who is passionate about building a better world for his children, and for generations to come. His dedication to our alliance shows how individual passion can kickstart the urgent, transformative work needed to protect our planet’s precious resources. Happy to have him on board.”

Ajinkya Rahane, reflecting on his new role, said, “I am very happy to have been onboarded as an ambassador with the Rainforest Alliance. Agriculture is my passion and through my partnership with Rainforest Alliance, I am hoping to contribute my bit to promote sustainability and help the farming community.”
