Mumbai: Prime Video announced that its Spanish-language Culpables movie franchise has surpassed 100 million viewers worldwide, underscoring the growing global appetite for non-English language content. The milestone was revealed at the inaugural Prime Video Presents: International Originals showcase held in London, where the platform unveiled its ambitious 2026 international content slate.
Opening the event, Kelly Day, VP of Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios International, highlighted the franchise’s global impact. The three films—Culpa Mia, Culpa Tuya and Culpa Nuestra—based on the best-selling trilogy by Mercedes Ron, debuted at number one in more than 170 countries, with over 90% of viewership coming from outside Spain.
Day added, “Prime Video is where international storytelling is thriving. What we’re seeing now is that audiences all over the world are finding content from lots of other countries that they really enjoy watching. This is happening more frequently, and Prime Video is where that’s happening.
Technology innovations we’ve made personalizing our service around country of origin and language preference have made it so that audiences everywhere can enjoy movies and television from other places around the world. Streaming has uniquely enabled this, scaling up through social conversation, personalization, technical advancements, and AI, which allows us to deliver more personalized recommendations and a far greater volume of subtitles and dubs in over 30 languages.”
Nicole Clemens, VP of International Originals at Amazon MGM Studios, also revealed the platform’s Top 10 most-watched non-English language International Originals globally over the past year. Three Indian titles—The Family Man Season 3, Panchayat Season 4, and Paatal Lok Season 2—featured among the global Top 10, reflecting the rising international traction of Indian content.
Demonstrating its continued investment in book-to-screen adaptations, Amazon MGM Studios announced development of Ron’s latest novel, 30 sunsets para enamorarte, marking the first U.S. adaptation of the Spanish author’s work. The project forms part of the broader ‘House of Ron’ collaboration, which includes 10 adaptations.
“There is so much opportunity to bring local stories, characters, and outstanding talent to global audiences, and we’re all already seeing huge success for both Prime Video, and the amazing talent,” said Clemens during the showcase.
The event also featured appearances from global talent including Stanley Tucci, Alia Bhatt, Nicole Wallace, Dolores Fonzi, Park Min-young and Wi Ha-joon, who presented their upcoming projects set to launch in 2026.
Among the international titles previewed were Italy’s Love Me, Love Me, Chile’s The House of the Spirits, Spain’s Drawn Together, South Korea’s Siren’s Kiss, Spain’s Apocalypse Z: Part II, and Japan’s FIST OF THE NORTH STAR: HOKUTO NO KEN. The slate reflects Prime Video’s strategy to scale local storytelling for global audiences, with availability planned across 240 countries and territories, supported by up to 36 subtitle and 22 dubbed language options.
Highlighting the Asia-Pacific opportunity, Gaurav Gandhi, Vice President of Prime Video APAC, said, “When we look at APAC, there’s an extraordinary opportunity to take exceptional local content from multiple entertainment ecosystems across the region and bring it to the world. There’s tremendous appetite for content from this region outside its home countries – whether it’s Japanese anime, Korean dramas, or Indian films and series. In fact, these are now amongst the most watched shows and movies outside their countries of origin on Prime Video. The opportunity is immense, and as a global service, we’re uniquely positioned to champion Asian content on the world stage.”
Speaking about her partnership under the ‘House of Ron’ banner, author Mercedes Ron added, “It’s been amazing, we’ve been working for three years now and I feel that Amazon trust me and I can trust them… and if I had to highlight one thing it would be that Amazon really loves these kind of (YA) stories and understand the fandom and respect them so well, so that’s why I think people are saying Amazon is making the best adaptations of books.”
Actress Nicole Wallace, commenting on her exclusive deal with Amazon MGM Studios, said, “For me the exclusivity contract means an amazing opportunity and a lot of trust in a platform like Prime Video in me, and being able to just have the peace and calmness to have someone like them support me and being able to find amazing stories and characters.”
Talking about The House of the Spirits, she added, “It’s an amazing adaptation, it’s very respectful, it holds so much admiration from everyone that’s been in it that I think that really comes through in the work. I think everyone is very conscious about the story we wanted to tell, the costumes, the makeup, everything is so beautiful, I think it’s one of the most amazing sets I’ve ever been in.”
Speaking about the comparison between her roles in the Culpables and Postcards from Italy, “There really is none (similarities). Mia is the idea we have of a New York girl that has a lot of money and can do whatever she wants with her life and Noah is the opposite, she comes from a very humble home and it’s obviously a very different cultural context, and I think that’s what I really like about Postcards from Italy, that crash between Italy and the US.”
As part of a fireside chat on Masterplan, Stanley Tucci said: “I thought it was one of the best characters I’ve ever read and I was thrilled to be asked to play it, it’s an actors dream… the international cast are great, Victor is a wonderful actor, Simona is wonderful and Thomas is an accomplished director… and the locations are stunning and has everything you could want.”
As global audiences increasingly embrace cross-border storytelling, Prime Video’s 2026 International Originals slate signals a continued push toward franchise-building, book IP adaptations, and scaling regional content for worldwide impact.
