Mumbai: Google is introducing its powerful AI assistant, Gemini for TV, to the Google TV Streamer, marking a significant upgrade from the traditional Google Assistant. The rollout begins today and will continue over the coming weeks, offering users a more intuitive, conversational way to interact with their televisions.
Gemini is Google’s next-generation AI model designed to power a range of experiences across Google’s products and services — from Search and Workspace to Android and now, the television screen.
With Gemini integrated into the Google TV experience, users can now speak naturally to discover content, learn new things, or even get help around the home. For instance, rather than searching by title or genre, users can ask Gemini, “I like dramas but my wife likes comedies. What’s a movie we can watch together?” — and Gemini will intelligently recommend something that suits both tastes.
The AI-powered assistant also helps users catch up on their favorite shows with context-aware questions like, “What happened at the end of ‘Outlander’ last season?” or find trending entertainment by asking, “What’s the new hospital drama everyone’s talking about?”
Beyond entertainment, Gemini for TV expands the utility of the living room screen into education and lifestyle. Families can use it to explain complex topics in simple terms — for example, “Explain why volcanoes erupt to my third grader” — or to get hands-on help with cooking or DIY projects, complete with step-by-step video guidance from YouTube.
Activating Gemini for TV is simple: just press the microphone button on the Google TV Streamer remote and start speaking.
This rollout marks another step in Google’s strategy to infuse Gemini AI across its ecosystem, enhancing productivity, creativity, and discovery across devices. With the addition of Gemini to Google TV, the company aims to make the living room a more interactive, intelligent, and personalized space for users.
