New Delhi: The Centre has appointed senior Indian Ordnance Factories Service (IOFS) officer Devinder Kumar as the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of Prasar Bharati, reinforcing governance and oversight at India’s public broadcaster. The appointment, cleared by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), comes under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Devinder Kumar will hold the position for an initial tenure of three years, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. As CVO, he will be responsible for overseeing vigilance administration, ensuring transparency in operations, and strengthening internal accountability mechanisms across Prasar Bharati’s network, which includes Doordarshan and All India Radio.
According to the official notification, the role is classified at Level-13 of the Pay Matrix, with a salary range of ₹1,23,100 to ₹2,15,900. The appointment has been made following a recommendation by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), the apex body for vigilance oversight in government organisations.
In line with the directive, the Department of Defence Production has been asked to relieve Kumar immediately from his current responsibilities to enable a smooth transition into his new role.
The move comes at a time when public broadcasters are increasingly focusing on strengthening institutional credibility and operational transparency amid evolving media dynamics. Kumar’s experience in the defence production ecosystem is expected to bring a structured and process-driven approach to vigilance functions within Prasar Bharati.
