New Delhi: HDFC Asset Management Company Ltd., the investment manager to HDFC Mutual Fund, is conducting a women-focused investor awareness campaign at Magh Mela 2026, currently underway in Prayagraj from January 3 to February 15, 2026. The initiative aims to improve financial literacy and encourage disciplined, long-term investing among women.
The campaign is being rolled out under HDFC Mutual Fund’s #BarniSeAzadi investor education and awareness initiative, which addresses the continued reliance on traditional savings practices, commonly referred to as barni. While such methods remain prevalent across households, savings kept idle in cash or containers do not generate returns and gradually lose value over time. Through this initiative, HDFC Mutual Fund seeks to encourage a gradual shift towards Systematic Investment Plan (SIP)-based mutual fund investing.
The on-ground activation at the Magh Mela runs from January 12 to February 15, 2026, aligning with the peak footfall period of the religious gathering. By taking investor education to a large community platform, the campaign aims to reach women in familiar, accessible environments outside formal financial settings.

Speaking on the initiative, Navneet Munot, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, HDFC Asset Management Company Ltd., says, “True financial freedom begins with awareness and small, disciplined steps. Women have traditionally been the custodians of household savings, and through our BarniSeAzadi initiative, we are encouraging a shift from idle savings to purposeful investing. By taking investor education to community platforms like the Magh Mela, we hope to meet people where they are, using familiar symbols and simple ideas to convey the power of long-term, goal-based investing. Financial inclusion is not just about access to products, but about building confidence, trust, and understanding.”
As part of the campaign, HDFC Mutual Fund has planned a series of on-ground activities at the Magh Mela, including a giant Barni installation symbolising traditional savings practices, nukkad nataks across multiple locations within the Mela, an AI-enabled photo booth, and a diya floating activity scheduled for Maghi Purnima. These elements are designed to engage audiences through culturally relevant and easy-to-understand formats.
The initiative reinforces HDFC Mutual Fund’s ongoing focus on expanding investor education by leveraging large community gatherings and familiar cultural symbols to reach a wider audience, particularly women, and promote informed participation in long-term investing.
Key benefits of Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs) highlighted through the campaign include freedom from market timing, suitability for long-term wealth accumulation, and disciplined wealth creation.
