Hindi News Genre maintains leadership over GEC reach in Wk 13

Mumbai: The consumption behaviour and genre preferences of the Indian TV viewing audience has underwent major change due to the pandemic of Covid-19. Due to this factor Hindi News channels have seen tremendous growth both in average impressions and reach week-on-week to the extent that it has overtaken GECs to emerge as the most-watched genre in Television as per the previous week’s BARC India’s viewership data (week 12).

The trend of Hindi News Genre dominating the GECs that are experiencing some turbulence in their ratings, and Movie genera, continued to reflect in BARC India’s viewership data for week 13 also.

According to data for Week 13, Hindi News Genre stood on top with Aajtak, ABP News, Republic Bharat, News18 India and Zee News featuring in the Top 10 average weekly reach (NCCS 2+ India) charts. Hindi Movie Genre followed the same with channels like B4U Movies, B4U Kadak, Star Gold and Star Gold 2 featuring the top 10 charts while Dangal happens to be the only GEC channel featuring in the chart.

In terms of Average Weekly Reach, Aajtakremained on top of the overall reach table with 231 Million impressions, ABP News stood at No. 2 with 206 million impressions followed by Republic Bharat at No. 3 in News genre with 197 million impressions. News18 India and Zee News garnered 181 million impressions each. B4U Movies and B4U Kadak stood on top of the Hindi Movie genre with an average weekly reach of 202 million and 197 million impressions respectively. Dangal, the leader in Hindi GEC clocked 183 million avg weekly impressions.

Market Share of Hindi News Channels:

Hindi News Genre garnered a cumulative of 3185986 Weekly GTVTs ‘000 in HSM during week 13 under NCCS2+ TG.

Aajtak commanded 16.46% share with 524450 weekly GTVTs ‘000s. ABP News with 11.94% share stood at No.2 by securing 380373 weekly GTVTs ‘000s followed by Zee News at No. 3 with 11.34% (361367 weekly GTVTs ‘000s) while Republic Bharat scored 10.58% market share and stood at No. 4 with 337128 weekly GTVTs ‘000s.

At No. 5 India TV garnered 10.56% market share and News18 India at No. 6 carved 10.13% share.
