Surat: In a significant milestone for Gujarat’s entertainment industry, Rajhans Cinemas has introduced IMAX to Surat, marking a major leap in premium cinema experiences for the city. The launch comes as part of IMAX’s expansion plans, with 65 additional screens across 15 locations under development and slated for completion by mid-2026.
Rajhans Cinemas currently operates 160 screens across India, with upcoming multiplexes in Noida, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Dehradun, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, Vizag, and Hyderabad.
The new IMAX auditorium is housed within Rajhans Cinemas Precia, one of India’s largest 14-screen multiplexes with over 3,000 seats. Offering a seating capacity of 400, the IMAX theatre features state-of-the-art IMAX 3D technology, an expansive curved screen, and ultra-crisp laser projection—delivering unparalleled clarity, contrast, and immersion.
Until recently, IMAX was a luxury experience largely confined to metro cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, and Ahmedabad. Surat audiences often had to travel long distances to access the format. However, the new Rajhans IMAX has already seen packed shows, repeat audiences, and strong word-of-mouth, signaling a shift in consumer demand for premium cinematic experiences in regional cities.
“This isn’t just a new screen, it’s a landmark in Surat’s cinematic journey,” said Jayesh Desai, Chairman of Rajhans Group. “With IMAX, we are not merely elevating the movie experience, we are introducing a new era of storytelling that engages all the senses. It’s our promise to Surat: world-class entertainment, right here at home.”
Industry observers note that this expansion reflects a growing expectation among audiences in non-metro markets for world-class entertainment offerings—an opportunity retail and leisure players are increasingly tapping into.
