Mumbai: In a significant enforcement move, JioStar has taken action against a Srinagar-based local cable operator, SEN, for alleged broadcast piracy and unauthorized redistribution of foreign channels. The development follows JioStar’s ongoing nationwide zero-tolerance campaign against signal theft and illegal broadcasting.
According to JioStar, the operator—linked to leading J&K MSO Take One JK Media Pvt. Ltd.—was reportedly retransmitting JioStar channels to nearly 50,000 subscribers without authorization, resulting in substantial revenue loss to the broadcaster and the government through subscription and tax evasion.
Further, the operator was found carrying restricted Pakistani channels, raising concerns linked to national security and compliance with foreign broadcast regulations.
Following a formal complaint, the Srinagar Police registered FIR No. 63/2025 dated 07 December 2025 at Police Station Shaheed Gunj under provisions of the Copyright Act, 1957. A raid at the operator’s control room led to seizure of equipment, including consumer STBs allegedly used to illegally receive and redistribute JioStar content.
This action mirrors similar enforcement steps initiated by JioStar in Rajasthan and Haryana as part of its broader crackdown on piracy.
JioStar remains committed to protecting intellectual property, supporting law enforcement, and ensuring a fair, secure, and compliant broadcast ecosystem across India.
The company plans to continue enhancing enforcement intelligence, legal action, and industry partnerships to counter media piracy and safeguard the broadcasting value chain.
