Leveling Up: How India’s Top Gamers Are Building Careers in the Creator Economy
Share Share ShareShare

As India’s creator economy experiences an unprecedented surge, one genre is leveling up faster than the rest—gaming. According to a report by Influencer Marketing Intelligence Platform Qoruz, the number of influencers in India skyrocketed from 962,000 in 2020 to 4.06 million in 2024. Within this explosion, gaming stands out as one of the fastest-growing categories, clocking an impressive 213% growth between 2020 and 2022, and closing 2024 with 467,000 gaming influencers.

But while the stage is bigger than ever, the road to success is anything but simple. In an increasingly saturated space, what does it really take to stand out? How do you transform your passion for games into a sustainable career?

To mark International Creators Day, top Indian gamers from the S8UL community shared their personal journeys, hard-earned lessons, and advice for aspiring creators looking to break through in 2025.

Creating Your Signature in a Sea of Sameness

In a world overflowing with content, following trends might seem like the easiest route to visibility. But India’s top gaming influencers say the real differentiator is authenticity.

“Focus on what makes you truly unique,” says Payal Dhare, better known as PayalGaming, one of India’s leading female gaming creators. “Whether it’s your personality, your sense of humour, or your gameplay style, consistency and authenticity are what create lasting impact.”

Salman Ahmad, aka 8Bit Mamba, adds, “Study the greats, but don’t mimic them. Learn how they structure content and engage audiences—but filter it through your own creativity. That’s how you form a distinct identity.”

For Raj Varma (Snax), being genuine is non-negotiable: “Don’t try to become someone else. The audience connects with honesty—your real self is your biggest strength.”

Gulrez Khan (Joker Ki Haveli) agrees, emphasizing storytelling and community. “Build your own voice. Engage with your audience, stay consistent, and grow through collaboration.”

What Not to Do: Lessons from the First Game Over

Every creator makes rookie mistakes—but learning from them early can be game-changing.

“Many beginners jump straight into livestreaming,” says 8Bit Mamba. “But starting with edited videos or shorts helps you hone your skills and understand your audience better.”

Joker Ki Haveli stresses the importance of quality. “Inconsistent uploads, poor thumbnails, or clickbait titles can erode trust. Focus on a niche, plan your uploads, and invest in presentation.”

PayalGaming warns against chasing viral trends. “Shortcuts rarely pay off in the long run. Be inspired, but build from your own unique point of view. Make content you yourself would want to watch.”

Snax busts the myth that big budgets are essential. “You don’t need expensive gear to get started. Even a smartphone can work if your content has value. Creativity outweighs cost.”

Turning Passion into Profession

Turning gaming into a career takes more than just skill—it takes strategy.

“Treat gaming like a serious profession,” says Payal. “Discipline and consistency matter. There will be slow days, but showing up every day builds momentum.”

Gulrez underscores the value of multi-platform presence. “Don’t limit yourself to YouTube or Twitch. Be active on Instagram, Discord, and elsewhere to connect with communities and brands.”

Snax offers a pragmatic take: “This industry is exciting but unpredictable. Always give it your all—but having a backup plan is smart. Financial security matters.”

Salman wraps it up with a call for versatility. “Gaming is incredibly diverse. Try different formats and genres. The community needs creators who are flexible and open to experimentation.”

Game On: The Final Word

Whether you’re an aspiring creator or on the verge of going full-time, the blueprint is clear: be authentic, stay consistent, engage your community—and never stop playing.

In a space that’s evolving faster than ever, India’s top gamers remind us that success is not just about the next viral hit. It’s about building something real, one stream, one story, and one connection at a time.
