New Delhi: The News Broadcasters Federation (NBF) has strongly condemned the violent attack on the Hyderabad office of Monica Broadcasting, which owns and operates Mahaa News, calling the incident a direct assault on journalistic freedom and integrity.
On Saturday, June 28, around 1:30 PM, a mob of over 40 individuals, allegedly linked to a regional political party, forcibly entered the Mahaa News office. The intruders intimidated and threatened staff, including camera crews, and physically assaulted employees, leaving at least two seriously injured. The attackers also vandalized office property, smashing glass panels, damaging broadcasting equipment, furniture, and vehicles used for field reporting.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety and independence of journalists in India. Mahaa News has been recognized for its consistent commitment to ethical and independent journalism. The NBF has denounced the attempt to suppress editorial freedom through violence and vandalism, underlining the critical role that a free press plays in a functioning democracy.
The NBF has called on the state government and law enforcement agencies to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation, hold the perpetrators accountable, and provide sufficient protection to media professionals.
The Federation reaffirmed its solidarity with Mahaa News and reiterated its unwavering commitment to uphold and protect the freedom of the press in India.
