New Delhi: In light of the prevailing security environment and ongoing diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan, the News Broadcasters Federation (NBF) has issued an advisory to its member channels, urging them to exercise heightened editorial discretion when considering participation of foreign nationals, particularly those from Pakistan, in televised news debates or panel discussions.
The NBF, which represents a wide network of news broadcasters across the country, emphasized that this guidance is a precautionary measure in response to the evolving geopolitical landscape. It strongly requested its members to refrain from inviting Pakistani guests or panelists on news programs, including debates, discussions, or any form of programming content, until further notice.
“This advisory is issued in the national interest and is rooted in the need to maintain journalistic responsibility while being sensitive to public sentiment,” the federation noted in its communication.
While underscoring that this move does not reflect any permanent policy, the NBF reiterated the importance of editorial prudence during sensitive times. “We advise all member channels to uphold the highest standards of editorial judgment, ensuring that programming remains respectful of national security concerns and the broader public mood,” the statement added.
The advisory comes amid heightened diplomatic and security concerns between India and Pakistan, leading various sectors—including media, academia, and cultural organizations—to reassess cross-border engagements.
The NBF assured its members that further guidance will be provided as the situation evolves and encouraged continued commitment to journalistic integrity and national responsibility.
