Porsche partners with Liter of Light to Illuminate Dreams in Rural India During Diwali

Mumbai: In a heartwarming initiative to celebrate Diwali, Porsche has partnered with the non-profit organization Liter of Light to bring solar-powered lamps to rural villages in India, transforming lives with sustainable light solutions.

The initiative, titled ‘Lighting Up Dreams,’ involved the creation of 1,963 handcrafted solar-powered lamps by previously unemployed women in Mumbai. The number is a nod to the birth year of the iconic Porsche 911. These lamps were showcased in a breathtaking light installation at Mumbai’s Gateway of India before being donated to families in Maharashtra and Gujarat who lack reliable access to electricity.

The lamps, painted in hues reminiscent of the all-new electric Porsche Macan’s Provence color, were arranged in the shape of the Porsche crest during the installation. This stunning display set a Guinness World Record for the largest display of solar-powered lamps, drawing crowds to witness the event at the iconic 26-meter-tall monument.

Speaking about the initiative, Manolito Vujicic, Brand Director for Porsche India, said, “Porsche India is honoured to partner with Liter of Light to create a truly meaningful impact this Diwali, celebrating the Festival of Lights by bringing solar-powered light to communities in need.”

The project not only provided sustainable lighting but also empowered local communities. The lamps were manufactured by women cooperatives, offering them green skills and a source of income. The solar lamps replace hazardous lighting methods like coal or kerosene, improving safety and quality of life.

Illac Diaz, Founder and Executive Director of Liter of Light, shared his thoughts, “We are thrilled that we could produce such a spectacular display, and at the same time contribute to an improvement in the lives of those involved in this project, from the women cooperatives we’ve employed with green skills to the families who will ultimately benefit from these solar lamps.”

After the installation, the lamps were carefully transported to rural households with the assistance of local organizations, including the Rotary Club of Bombay Juhu Beach.

“We thank Liter of Light and our colleagues at Porsche India for bringing together this amazing project,” said Manfred Braeunl, CEO of Porsche Middle East and Africa FZE.“The spectacular display at the Gateway of India has created amazing images that will be seen around the world. But the real lasting impact of this effort is that we have improved lives of people in a meaningful way.”
