New Delhi: Public broadcaster Prasar Bharati has officially announced the subscription pricing for its ambitious WAVES OTT platform, introducing three tiers—Platinum, Diamond, and Gold (Free)—aimed at catering to a wide spectrum of Indian digital consumers.
Positioned as a comprehensive content hub offering live TV channels, movies, radio, and special programming, WAVES OTT’s new plans mark a major milestone in India’s rapidly evolving streaming landscape. The move is seen as part of Prasar Bharati’s broader digital transformation strategy to bring public service broadcasting into the OTT age.
Tiered Offerings: Designed for Every Viewer
The Platinum Plan, priced at ₹999 annually, is the most premium offering. It provides ad-free access to the entire content library, UHD video quality, support for four devices, and 10% discounts on rentals. Subscribers also benefit from downloads, radio, background play, and live TV—positioning it as an all-in-one solution for power users and families.
The Diamond Plan, offered at ₹350 annually, balances affordability with access. While it includes ads, it offers full content access, downloads, HD streaming, and support for two devices. Features like radio, live TV, and background play are included, making it suitable for budget-conscious consumers seeking wide content access.
The Gold Plan, a free tier, grants users access to all content but comes with trade-offs: ads, standard definition (SD) streaming, and no download support. It is targeted at casual viewers looking for zero-cost entertainment.
A Digital Leap for Public Broadcasting
With content spanning movies, live shows, TV specials, and radio programming, WAVES OTT blends entertainment with public service broadcasting. The platform is compatible across all devices and platforms, ensuring accessibility for urban and rural users alike.
By entering the subscription OTT market, Prasar Bharati is positioning WAVES alongside major commercial players but with a distinct public service mandate. The free plan ensures inclusivity, while affordable premium tiers cater to diverse viewer segments in a highly competitive market.
The rollout comes amid rising digital consumption and increased demand for regional and public interest content, areas where Prasar Bharati holds significant archival and live assets.
