Mumbai: Prime Video has announced that its global hit series The Summer I Turned Pretty will conclude with a feature film written and directed by Jenny Han. The news was revealed at the show’s finale red carpet celebration in Paris, marking the next chapter in the beloved franchise.
“The Summer I Turned Pretty has struck a chord with audiences everywhere, creating moments of joy, nostalgia, and connection that have made it a global sensation,” said Courtenay Valenti, Head of Film, Streaming and Theatrical at Amazon MGM Studios, and Vernon Sanders, Global Head of Television at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios. “We’re proud of the series’ extraordinary success and couldn’t be more excited to partner again with Jenny Han to bring fans an unforgettable next chapter.”
“There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due. I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans,” said Jenny Han, writer, director, and executive producer.
Adapted from Han’s best-selling trilogy, The Summer I Turned Pretty has become a worldwide phenomenon since debuting in 2022. Season Three, which premiered earlier this year, drew 25 million viewers globally within its first seven days, making it the fifth most-watched returning season on Prime Video. Season One debuted as the #1 show on the platform during its launch weekend, and Season Two more than doubled those numbers within three days.
The multigenerational drama follows a love triangle between one girl and two brothers while exploring themes of family, friendship, and coming of age. At its heart, it captures the magic of first love, heartbreak, and the transformative power of summer.
Season Three was helmed by Jenny Han and Sarah Kucserka as co-showrunners, with both serving as executive producers alongside Karen Rosenfelt, and Paul Lee, Hope Hartman, and Mads Hansen of wiip. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios in partnership with wiip.
Jenny Han, the No. 1 New York Times best-selling author of The Summer I Turned Pretty and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, continues to be a leading voice in YA storytelling. Her works have been published in over 30 languages, with successful adaptations across television and film, including Netflix’s global hit To All the Boys trilogy and its spinoff series XO, Kitty.
