Chennai: Tamil Infotainment Channel Puthiyathalaimurai has acknowledged and honored new set of legendary women achievers and promising stars of future- who had immensely contributed towards the society, with its Annual Awards property -Sakthi Awards 2018, as part of its celebration of womanhood every year on the occasion of the Women’s day.
The channel has honoring woman stalwarts in their respective fields of excellence with 6 different categories of awards namely Leadership Award, Kindness Award, Ability Award, Courage Award, Literary Award and Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Sakthi awards 2018 were conferred on Friday, 2nd March 2018, in grand award night held at Chennai Trade Center. The prestigious Award for Legendary Women Achiever for Leadership was conferred to the former Editor of The Hindu Newspaper and co-chairperson, THG Publishing Private Limited – MaliniParthasarathy.
In her acceptance speech, Dr. Parthasarathy said, “Leadership is not just about empowerment and positions. It also means taking stands for principles, values even if they are unpopular and against the tide.”
Stating that it was a happy development to see women coming in large numbers and being active in reporting and newsrooms, Dr. Parthasarathy hoped the award would inspire them to take up more leadership positions in newsrooms.
The awards were given by Tamil Nadu Health secretary J. Radhakrishnan and P. Sathyanarayanan, managing director of PuthiyaThalaimurai.
The other awardees included Bhagirathi Ramamurthy, who runs the Anandam old age home, for Benevolence; Cricketer ThirushKamini for Talent, and UdumalpetKausalya Shankar, who is leading the crusade against honour killing, for Courage. Eminent Gynaecologist Kamala Selvaraj was given the Lifetime Achievement Award and Singer VaniJayaram, was conferred the award in the Knowledge category.
The televised event will be aired at a later date on Puthiyathalaimurai TV.
