Bengaluru: Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL), the FMCG arm of Reliance Industries Limited, has acquired a majority stake in Udhaiyams Agro Foods Pvt Ltd, bringing Tamil Nadu’s iconic nutrition brand Udhaiyam into its rapidly expanding branded staples portfolio.
Under the joint venture structure, RCPL will hold the majority stake, while the company’s erstwhile promoters — S. Sudhakar and S. Dinakar — will retain a minority share and continue in operational roles to steer the next phase of growth.
The acquisition strengthens RCPL’s strategy of scaling legacy Indian brands and aligns with its ambition to deliver “global quality at affordable prices” across the country.

Founded over three decades ago, Udhaiyams Agro Foods has built a strong market presence in Tamil Nadu with a wide portfolio spanning pulses, rice, spices, snacks, idli batter and other staples. The brand’s robust distribution network and deep regional equity have helped it become one of the state’s most trusted household names.
For RCPL, which has been on an acquisition and brand-building drive across categories including staples, beverages and packaged foods, the deal is expected to provide a powerful foothold in the high-volume southern staples market.
Backed by Reliance Industries’ nationwide retail infrastructure, RCPL aims to scale Udhaiyam into a national brand while continuing to promote homegrown heritage labels.
