Mumbai: In a high-energy crossover between sport and cinema, Indian cricket icon Shikhar Dhawan has teamed up with Bollywood veteran Anil Kapoor for a special promotional campaign for the upcoming film Subedaar, set to release worldwide on Prime Video on March 5.
The collaboration comes as India advances to the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, leveraging the heightened national fervour around cricket to build buzz for the film’s launch.
Fondly known as ‘Mr. ICC’ for his standout performances in major international tournaments, Dhawan appears alongside Kapoor in his on-screen role as retired soldier Arjun Maurya. The campaign blends the intensity of elite sport with cinematic action, portraying both personalities as fearless competitors ready to face challenges—whether on the cricket field or in battle on screen.
Shikhar Dhawan said, “It was a great experience shooting for the Subedaar movie campaign with Mr. Anil Kapoor. The way he brings alive every character rubs off on you. With this campaign, you can feel that fighting spirit throughout, the mindset of standing strong and giving everything you’ve got. That’s something I connect with deeply and have applied on the cricket field. I believe people will also feel that emotion and energy when they watch it.”
Anil Kapoor said, “The story of movie Subedaar is rooted in courage, resilience and the spirit of never giving up. Those are qualities that define great sportspersons as well. Shikhar carries that fighter’s instinct naturally, and you can feel that strength and positivity when you work with him. It was a pleasure sharing the screen with someone who represents that spirit so authentically.”
The association reinforces Dhawan’s stature as a cultural icon whose influence extends beyond the cricket field, while also enhancing the scale and mass appeal of Subedaar through a strategic sporting connection timed with a marquee international tournament.
By bringing together one of India’s most recognisable sporting figures and a celebrated film star, the campaign creates a larger-than-life promotional moment—building anticipation not only for the film’s March 5 release but also for India’s campaign in the World Cup Super 8 stage.
