Known to bring unusual stories on celluloid, director Abhinay Deo has again proved his knack for filmmaking with this unconventional yet commercial movie. Appreciated by film fraternity and critics alike, blackmail boasts of a stellar line of finest actors of the industry such as Irrfan Khan, Divya Dutta, Kriti Kulhari, Arunoday Singh and Omi Vaidya.
The film revolves around Irrfan Khan’s character Dev, a middle-class man stuck between a dead end job and a loveless marriage. Each day, Dev follows the mundane routine of being a corporate slave at office, reaching home to an indifferent wife Reena (Kriti Kulhari) and a microwave dinner at night. One fine day, he decides to surprise his wife but instead gets the biggest shock of his life when he finds Reena with her lover, Ranjit (Arunoday Singh) in their bedroom. Unlike the conventional Bollywood husband, Dev reacts differently – he starts to blackmail his wife’s lover. Thereafter begins a chain of endless blackmailing.
Dev blackmails Ranjit but in turn starts getting blackmail calls when his friend at work accidently leaks his plan to a co-worker. With each deceiving character wanting a piece of the pie, the money keeps circulating and changing hands.
Will Dev be successful in his plan? Or Will he get entangled in his own vicious circle of blackmailing?
