Mumbai: Hats Off Productions in association with Star Plus is bringing back the ‘family viewing’ experience with “Khichdi ” the cult show that defines hilarity. TV’s iconic jodi Praful and Hansa will be playing the lead roles in the channels new comedy series.
The sitcom starring Parekhs, the madcap family is of ‘seven pack’. The old family patriarch Tulsidas (Anang Desai), fondly called as Babuji, getting enraged seeing the hilarious acts of his family members every episode. While Praful considers himself a master of English and gets his Angreji to Hindi translations miserably wrong; his Gajra loving laid-back wife who is quite welcoming to everyone as she goes – “Hello, how are? Khanakhakejaanahaan!”
Gossip queen Jayshree (Vandana Pathak) can’t hang up her phone as she chatters non-stop with her mother and plots evil ploys with her sister-in-law. Hansa’s younger brother Himanshu (Jamnadas Majethia)who is into catering business will is sure with laughter with his “kissikopatanahichalega” antic. Lastly, the kids of the family Jackky(Agastya Kapadia) and Chakki (MisriMajethia) who are fed up of the elderly members and their crazy shenanigans will spread the laughter all over.
Talking about the new show, Producer – Actor JD Majethia, says, “With a show like Khichdi we are tapping the family audience. It’s a show that celebrates togetherness and family viewing. In this day and age of nuclear families, we are reintroducing the flavor of joint families. Just like the close-knit family on the show, we want our audience to come together and enjoy this sitcom. It’s great to bind families with a family comedy like Khichdi.”
Writer/Director/Co Producer Aatish Kapadia says, “While the television is getting regressive, it is good to bring back a family that brings back smiles in lives of the many other families. In an era of prevalent daily soaps that deal with either dysfunctional families, social pressures or personal issues the need for a show that would provide a much-needed humor, and clean family entertainment was more needed than ever. So we got this madcap family, which is always together despite their differences in the quirky characters with Khichdi.”
The finite series will have celebrity guests coming on the show as surprise characters. Apart from the primary cast, the audience will be introduced to a popular face from the world of entertainment in a never-seen-before avatar in every single episode on the show. The line-up includes Renuka Shahane as a Don, Bhaktiyar Irani as a conman, Deepshikha Nagpal as a doctor, Debina Bonnerjee as a painter and so on.
Khichdi will be aired every Saturday and Sunday @ 8PM on Star Plus
