Mumbai: Warner Bros. Discovery has announced the premiere of ‘Air India Flight 171 Crash: Declassified’, an exclusive, fact-based documentary examining the tragic crash of Air India Flight 171. Slated to air on 4th August 2025 at 9:00 PM on Discovery Channel and discovery+, the one-hour investigative special aims to shed light on one of the most distressing aviation incidents in recent times.
Set against the backdrop of previous Boeing-related accidents and whistleblower revelations, the documentary raises critical questions about systemic aviation safety lapses, manufacturing concerns, and regulatory oversight. The film draws from eyewitness footage, aviation forensics, and expert interviews to reconstruct the flight’s final moments and dissect key early findings.
Sai Abishek, Head of Factual Entertainment, Lifestyle & Kids, South Asia, Warner Bros. Discovery, said, “The documentary presents a clear and balanced look at the crash, focusing on what is currently known and the possible factors that may have contributed to it. It draws from the preliminary report, analysing the key findings in detail. The film also delves into the broader questions surrounding aircraft safety, manufacturing practices, and regulatory oversight. Through expert insights, survivor accounts, and documented incidents, we hope to offer a grounded perspective on the concerns raised around Boeing in recent years.”
Produced by Emporium Productions (UK) and co-financed and distributed globally by Silverlining Rights, the documentary features rare access to voices that matter — from former FAA regulators and ex-Boeing employees to global aviation safety experts and family members of the victims.
Using 3D visualizations, the special breaks down early indicators related to engine thrust, landing gear retraction, and fuel cut-off systems—elements that may have played a role in the crash. The program also contextualizes the Flight 171 incident within a global framework of rising scrutiny on aviation safety protocols.
‘Air India Flight 171 Crash: Declassified’ reinforces Warner Bros. Discovery’s commitment to bold, socially conscious storytelling, and adds to its acclaimed portfolio of investigative specials that go beyond headlines to examine the truths shaping global discourse.
