Hindenburg Research, an entity many of us had not heard of, has got the Adani empire – and its investors and lenders – very worried. Adani isn’t the only one whose wealth is getting wiped off the markets. Meanwhile, the threat of legal action by the Adani Group has been welcomed by Hindenburg, which has said it will demand a ‘long list of documents’ in a legal discovery process.

A corporation councillor invited a colleague, a cleaning worker, to hoist the flag in Chennai. The gesture was much appreciated by some members of the media and others. Elsewhere, every signal in Mumbai had hawkers selling the tricolour. Roads were reported to be motorable in the first half in places like Bengaluru. The sense of national pride swelled seeing some of the patriotic advertising being put out. And one had to remind oneself that Republic Day is different from Independence Day.
