It’s a national disgrace. But it’s not the fault of the wrestlers whose pleas have been ignored until they took to the streets. I am not aligned with India’s ‘Golden Girl’ who fell from grace by admonishing the protesting wrestlers for ‘indiscipline’. Not good for her stature, not at all good for the ruling establishment whose MP has been accused of sexual harassment of multiple wrestlers including a minor. Justice must not just be done, but also be seen to be done. Unless of course, one believes that the electoral arithmetic is absolutely in one’s favour and one can get away with anything. If it is a choice between protecting one man versus protecting the dignity of women, no marks for guessing which side a self-respecting human will vote for.

Drug Fixers
The ordeal is over, hopefully, for Chrisann Pereira and her family. It is unfathomable that a fight over a dog could trigger someone to do this. To get a neigbour jailed in a foreign land, by sending her abroad with the promise of a professional gig and planting drugs in something they asked her to carry. Now someone should make a movie on the subject. Not of one actor spending a month in jail, but on the guy who has made it his profession to plant drugs on travellers and extort money for their release. Is that even possible without some form of support from authorities on the other side?
The moral of the story is that you don’t carry stuff for others unless you trust them implicitly. Or unless there is some sort of legal validation that it is being carried for someone else.
