Cannes Lions 2022: ‘Unfiltered History Tour’ Helps Dentsu India make history, take ‘Agency of the Year’ title

Leo Burnett bagged a Grand Prix on the final day; Ogilvy and Dentsu Creative won a Titanium each; FCB India won a Silver and a Bronze; DDB Mudra won a Bronze; VMLY&R won a Silver and a Bronze.

Cannes Lions honours AB InBev with Creative Marketer of the Year

Dentsu Creative Bengaluru was named ‘Agency of the Year’ at the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity 2022 winning multiple awards for its ‘Unfiltered History Tour’ for client Vice Media, becoming the first Indian agency to receive the title.

The ‘Unfiltered History Tour’ campaign won a total of 3 Grand Prix, besides 1 Gold, 1 Titanium, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze Lions at the five-day festival that concluded on 24 June.

Ogilvy India and Dentsu Creative became the first Indian agencies to win the Titanium Lions.

On the final day of the festival, India added eight more Lions to its tally including a Grand Prix, two Titanium Lions, two Silver and three Bronze Lions, taking the total metal tally to 47 and breaking its previous record of 40 metals in 2017.

Not just me I think no one in the entire Indian ad industry has been part of such a huge haul of Lions ever before. And I do believe we are the first full-service Indian agency to win the title of Agency of the Year. I doff my hat to the entire team responsible for the Unfiltered History Tour. Those who are with us now and those who have moved on. Congratulations all. For now, it’s party time!”

Titanium Lions

Ogilvy India bagged a Titanium Lion for ‘Shahrukh Khan- My Ad’ campaign for client Cadbury Celebrations.

Sukesh Nayak, Harshad Rajadhyaksha & Kainaz Karmakar, Chief Creative Officers, Ogilvy India said, “This is a piece of work that has found love with the masses in India and we are grateful that the idea has also found love with the hugely accomplished Titanium Jury at Cannes.  This is a salute to our brave Ogilvy Team, Mondelez India Team, Tech partner – Rephrase, Content partner – Pack Films and Media partner – Wavemaker.”

Dentsu Creative India also bagged a Titanium Lion for ‘The Unfiltered History Tour’ campaign.

These were the only shortlists from India in the Titanium Lions category.

Sustainable Development Goals

Leo Burnett bagged a Grand Prix for ‘The Missing Chapter’ for client P&G.

VMLY&R Commerce won a Silver for ‘Smart Fill’ campaign for client Unilever.

There were 6 shortlists from India in the category.

Film Lions

FCB India/Kinnect won a Silver and Bronze for ‘Chatpat’ campaign for client SOS Children’s Village India.

DDB Mudra won a Bronze for ‘Machine-Gun Mouth’ campaign for client Battlegrounds Mobile India.

There were 8 shortlists from India in the category.

Glass: The Lion for Change

VMLY&R Commerce won a Bronze for its ‘Adeli’ campaign for client Unipads.

There were 2 shortlists from India in the category.

Dentsu Creative: 12 Lions, including 3 Grand Prix, 1 Gold, 1 Titanium, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze for ‘The Unfiltered History Tour’.

VMLY&R: 7 Lions – 1 Gold and 1 Silver for ‘The Killer Pack’ campaign; 1 Silver and 1 Bronze for ‘Adeli’ campaign; 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze for ‘Smart Fill’.

Leo Burnett: 2 Lions, including 1 Grand Prix and 1 Silver for ‘The Missing Chapter’.

Byju’s: 1 Silver for ‘Master Ji’ campaign.

DDB Mudra: 3 Lions – 1 Silver for ‘A Silent Frown’; 1 Bronze for “Stayfree Project Free Period”; 1 Bronze for ‘Machine-Gun Mouth’.

Ogilvy India: 6 Lions – 2 Gold, 1 Titanium, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze for ‘Shahrukh Khan – My Ad’; 1 Silver for ‘Perk Disclaimers’.

FCB India: 14 Metals – 1 Gold and 2 Silver for ‘Nominate Me Selfie’; 2 Gold, 3 Silver and 3 Bronze for ‘Chatpat’; 3 Bronze for ‘Unbox Me’.

McCann India: 1 Gold for ‘Shagun Ka Lifafa’ campaign.

BBDO India: 1 Bronze for ‘See Equal #ShareTheLoad’.
