The media and broadcasting rights for Indian Super League is set to take over by Viacom18 from Star Network, according to a report by insidesport.
Reportedly, the takeover will happen after the 2024-25 season as the five year contract with Start Network will come to an end in 2023.
The broadcasting rights of ISL was vested with Star Network since the tournament debut in 2014 and the multilingual prime-time telecast by the channel has played a major role in the popularity of ISL. Reliance subsidiary Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) owns 65 pc of the ISL.
Viacom18 is aggressive with sporting properties as they have acquired the digital rights of IPL for a whopping, while Disney Star could retain the IPL television rights for Rs 23,758 crore. They have also secured Women’s Indian Premier League (IPL) media rights value for the 2023-2027 cycle for a total of Rs 951 crore.
Viacom18 has secured the exclusive media rights to broadcast the Olympic Games Paris 2024, plus non-exclusive rights to the Winter Youth Olympic Games Gangwon 2024. They have also acquired the rights for FIFA World Cup 2022, La Liga, Serie A, and Ligue 1.
