Share Share ShareShare

Mumbai: As we celebrate AI Appreciation Day, we’re seeing the transformative and awe-inspiring impact of AI technology on all aspects of life. Sprinklr Insights said that since its general release, people have fallen in love with the capabilities of AI models like GPT as it empowers new creative pursuits and learning for all. Image and art generation AI is helping democratise access to visual arts for emerging creators. And finally, machine learning AI has showcased its incredible capabilities to help businesses and organisations enter a new age of efficiency in organisation and management.

This growing affinity and appreciation for AI is best seen across the many thousands of social media conversations about the topic, and Sprinklr Insights has compiled a snapshot of the defining trends towards AI across social media in India for 2024.

Top AI Platforms And Models That Are Resonating With India: Indians have historically showcased strong trends towards early adoption of new technology. It is perhaps no wonder then that India’s conversations about AI on social media in India have grown tremendously in 2024. The biggest individual rise in conversations in comparison to its social media presence in 2023 was seen by Azure AI, whose social media mentions rose by 2,726% and brought it into the top 10 of the list.

Naturally, the overall top 5 of 2024 on the list were rounded off by some of the biggest global AI tools, which are Microsoft Copilot, GitHub, Google Gemini, Claude AI, and Microsoft PowerBI. Of these, Copilot, GitHub, and PowerBI also showcased a gain of over 1,000% this year in terms of actual online conversations, making them some of the fastest rising AI platforms in terms of online popularity. The presence of industry specific tools like GitHub and PowerBI also informs us that a large portion of these conversations involve specialists who likely have a strong familiarity with the industry and custom built AI platforms.

The Top AI Skiills That India Inc. Is Interested In: India has identified AI as the next major growth opportunity for its strong IT sector, with potential to empower its pool of skilled tech talent.  As such, conversations about AI skills are an important discussion among AI enthusiasts on social media in 2024.

Of the leading tech skills today, Machine Learning remains the top AI skill to have for the new tech landscape, with over 2.34 million conversations mentioning it. Database Management, Data Science, Natural Language Programming, and Programming Languages round out the top 5 skills.

The largest growth in conversations among these in 2024 was seen for Programming Languages, up over 668% from its mentions over the previous year. Additionally, the niche category of AI Ethics also saw a significant growth in conversations over this year, going up by over 700% compared to 2023 mentions. Together, these numbers showcase the commitment of Indian talent and business leaders to ensure that India is well equipped on the skills front for the AI Era.

Top AI Startups In India: India is already taking the first steps towards putting the skills of its AI talent to use, as the first generation of Indian AI startups is building momentum. In 2024, we have seen a significant rise in the amount of public attention the leading startups are receiving.

Among these, the Ola-backed Krutrim AI leads the way in terms of overall growth in online discussions, seeing an incredible 85,200% increase in online conversations. This is followed by Sarvam AI, which recently partnered with Microsoft in Feb 2024 to bring their Indic voice LLM to the Azure AI cloud – securing a 7,410% increase in mentions. The remainder of the top 5 feature CX chatbot platform Yellow.ai with 1790%, Bengaluru-based MachineHack GenAI with 800%, and Reliance Jio owned Haptik.ai with 560%.

Top Cities Leading The AI Conversation In India: The metro cities led the way when it came to top cities discussing AI in 2024. A combination of the business and IT hubs in India, the top five cities in terms of volume of AI conversations were Delhi, Mumbai. Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai. Of these, Delhi and Bengaluru also saw the largest growth in terms of conversations, up over 1,600% from 2023.

Interest And Sentiments Towards AI In India And The World: 2024 has been marked with a growing familiarity and interest with various AI platforms and features. It is one of the most widely discussed topics worldwide, and as such it is no wonder that in 2024, we already have over 20 million conversations about AI on social media, with a reach of over 3 trillion impressions across platforms – showing how strong the AI inclination is around the globe.

India remains a strong contributor to these figures, with over 550K conversations and over 24 billion impressions. With its tech startup ecosystem, engaged tech talent pool and rapidly growing economy, Indians are looking to AI as the next big avenue for business transformation across sectors – showcasing why the 2024 figures saw a boost of over 386% over the previous year.

Support for IndiaAI Mission: The IndiaAI Mission received its first boost in March 2024, as the Union Cabinet approved an allocation of over Rs. 10,300 crore for the IndiaAI Mission – aiming to set up strong AI computing capabilities domestically in the public and private sectors. This undertaking further boosted the existing public support for India’s AI potential. Today, the public sentiment for the IndiaAI mission stands at 98.44% positive rating across social media platforms – showcasing that there is shared optimism for India’s AI future.
