Mumbai: Asheesh Pandey has assumed charge as the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Union Bank of India.
A seasoned banker with over 27 years of experience, Pandey began his career at the erstwhile Corporation Bank, Mumbai, in the Industrial Finance Branch before moving on to the Investment & International Banking Division.
Prior to this appointment, he served as Executive Director at Bank of Maharashtra for over three years and nine months, where he was instrumental in driving initiatives in Corporate Credit & Treasury, Digital Lending Solutions, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Robotic Process Automation (RPA) across retail, compliance, human resources, and customer services. Under his leadership, Bank of Maharashtra implemented several technology-driven initiatives, including digital lending platforms, process reengineering, and internal dashboards.
Earlier, Shri Pandey held the position of Chief General Manager & Chief Operations Officer at Union Bank of India, where he played a pivotal role in steering the amalgamation and process harmonisation of the merged entity. His tenure saw the successful rollout of innovative digital solutions such as WhatsApp Banking, e-Nomination, Online Death Claim Settlement, Video KYC, Doorstep Banking, Digi Connect Branches, and analytics-driven monitoring tools.
Over the course of his career, he has handled a diverse range of portfolios including Credit, Treasury & Merchant Banking, Credit Monitoring, Foreign Transactions & Joint Ventures, Marketing & Customer Relationships, and Banking Operations. As General Manager of Credit Monitoring and Restructuring at Union Bank, he introduced advanced analytics, predictive modelling, and machine learning for strengthening credit portfolio management. He also has rich field experience, having led Union Bank’s Jaipur Region.
In addition, Pandey has held several leadership roles, including Chairman of The Maharashtra Executor & Trustee Co. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Bank of Maharashtra, and President & Trustee of Gramin Mahila Va Balak Vikas Mandal (GMBVM), a trust of Bank of Maharashtra.
An alumnus of IIM Bangalore, Pandey is a Mechanical Engineer (Hons) with a Post-Graduation in Management (Hons) specialising in Finance & Marketing. He is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers and holds NSE certifications in Insurance, Mutual Funds, and Demat Operations. He has also completed the Executive Leadership Programme and the Directors Development Program 2023 by Egon Zehnder in collaboration with Harvard Business Publishing.
With his rich expertise in operations, credit, technology adoption, and strategic transformation, Shri Asheesh Pandey’s appointment as MD & CEO is expected to further strengthen Union Bank of India’s growth trajectory and digital-first vision.
