Mumbai: WPP and Google have announced a five-year expansion of their partnership, focused on advancing cloud and AI technologies and developing the critical skills required to transform modern marketing. The collaboration aims to redefine how brands create and deliver hyper-relevant campaigns — compressing production timelines from months to days — while driving measurable growth across the integrated marketing and commerce journey.
The partnership includes a $400 million investment commitment from WPP for Google technologies, reinforcing WPP’s market-leading efforts to infuse AI into its services via WPP Open, the company’s AI platform for marketing. The agreement was formalised in Mountain View during a meeting between WPP CEO Cindy Rose, Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian, and senior leadership from both companies.

Cindy Rose, CEO of WPP, said, “I’m incredibly excited about how our new and evolved partnership with Google will redefine what’s possible for our clients. By delivering bespoke AI solutions and enabling hyper-relevant campaigns with unprecedented scale and speed, we’re accelerating innovation across every facet of marketing to drive unparalleled growth and impact.”

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, said, “Our expanded partnership with WPP is built on a shared vision to harness the power of generative and agentic AI to transform business outcomes. By enabling WPP to innovate on our AI-optimised technology stack, we are helping create the future of marketing technology for brands today.”

Lorraine Twohill, SVP, Global Marketing, Google, added, “As an important partner to Google Marketing, WPP has been working closely with us on a number of AI tools and innovations built with Gemini — all focused on driving brand love and real business growth through truly helpful experiences that resonate with our billions of users around the world. I’m excited to continue exploring what marketing and storytelling looks like in this new era, together.”
The expanded collaboration will empower WPP’s global client base with advanced AI solutions built on Google’s technology stack, transforming the way brands connect with audiences and achieve growth. Key initiatives include:
- Custom AI development with Gemini: WPP will co-develop tailored AI models to solve specific client challenges, blending Google’s AI capabilities with WPP’s creative expertise. AKQA’s “The Generative Store”, for example, personalises retail experiences by dynamically adapting product visuals and messaging for each consumer using Google Cloud’s Vertex AI.
- AI-driven media intelligence: Google Cloud’s AI products, powered by Google DeepMind models, fuel WPP Media’s new data solution, Open Intelligence, enabling rapid creation and deployment of bespoke audience models with measurable impact.
- Privacy-first data collaboration: Through InfoSum’s Bunkers on Google Marketplace, integrated into WPP Open, brands can access deeper AI-driven insights without moving data — ensuring both privacy and security.
- Revolutionising creative production: With early access to Google’s latest AI models including Veo and Imagen, WPP can now create campaign-ready assets in days, not weeks, achieving up to 70% efficiency gains and a 2.5x boost in asset utilisation.
- Next-generation AI talent development: WPP’s Creative Technology Apprenticeship Programme will expand globally with Google as the primary curriculum partner. The initiative will train over 1,000 creative technologists by 2030, equipping them with expertise in creative coding, generative AI, and robotics through real-world projects for clients like L’Oréal and Unilever.
- Enhanced internal operations: Google AI will also transform WPP’s internal processes — from data analysis to resource allocation — enabling faster, smarter client service and accelerating the development of AI-driven marketing solutions globally.
Under the new model, innovations are co-developed, tested, and validated within Google’s own marketing operations before deployment to WPP clients. This ensures that solutions are proven in real-world scenarios, giving WPP clients a first-mover advantage in the rapidly evolving AI marketing landscape.
The partnership underscores WPP and Google’s shared mission to push the boundaries of creativity and technology — setting a new global benchmark for AI-enabled marketing transformation.
