New Delhi: As the New Year celebrations get underway, CARS24 has launched a stark and thought-provoking public safety initiative that brings the consequences of drunk driving into sharp focus. Turning city billboards into powerful reminders, the company is displaying original wrecked cars across prominent locations in Delhi, Gurugram and Pune, confronting commuters with the real aftermath of reckless driving.
Drunk driving remains a serious and persistent threat to road safety in India, particularly during festive periods. On New Year’s Eve 2024 alone, enforcement agencies booked hundreds of offenders across cities. At a national level, estimates for 2024 indicate that nearly 14,390 road accidents were linked to drunk driving, resulting in more than 6,542 deaths. Official data from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways further highlights the scale of the issue, with 9,143 alcohol-related accidents and 3,674 fatalities recorded in 2023. Together, these numbers underscore that drunk driving is not a localised concern, but a nationwide challenge.
Launched on December 29, the CARS24 initiative departs from conventional awareness campaigns by using genuine damaged vehicles instead of stylised visuals or dramatized imagery. By placing real wreckage on billboards in everyday public spaces, the campaign relies on realism rather than shock value, creating moments of pause that linger long after the first glance.
While celebrations may last a night, the consequences of driving under the influence can last a lifetime. Through repeated on-road exposure and growing digital amplification, the initiative aims to shift public attention from momentary indulgence to long-term impact, making the cost of a single decision impossible to ignore.

Speaking on the initiative, Gajendra Jangid, Co-Founder & Group CMO, CARS24, said, “As a company built around mobility, we know that every decision behind the wheel matters. ‘Drink and Drive’ is not about awareness alone, it is about accountability. If this initiative makes even one person pause, put the keys down, and choose safety over convenience, it has achieved its purpose.”
The campaign reinforces CARS24’s broader commitment to responsible mobility, road safety and improved driving behaviour, aligned with its belief in creating better drives and better lives. As the year draws to a close, the company urges citizens to celebrate responsibly and remember that no celebration is worth a life.
