Chennai: The Indian advertising and creative fraternity is mourning the untimely demise of Jerald Packiasamy, Founder and Director of Still Waters Films, who passed away on Tuesday in Chennai.
Jerald was widely regarded as a filmmaker of rare finesse, known for his class act creative sensibility and a body of work admired for its craft, restraint, and authenticity. Over the years, he emerged as a respected voice in advertising storytelling, earning the trust of agencies and brands alike.
According to industry friends and close associates, Jerald succumbed to a brain tumour after a six-month-long battle with the illness. His funeral is scheduled to be held in Chennai on Wednesday.
The Advertising Club Madras, in a condolence message, described him as a valued member of the creative fraternity who played a significant role in shaping contemporary advertising storytelling in India. The organisation noted that his contribution to the industry and the creative community would be remembered with respect and gratitude.
Founded in 2007 by Jerald Packiasamy and Preeti, Still Waters Films has grown into an award-winning ad film production house with a strong reputation for storytelling excellence. Over the years, the company has built a diverse and impressive brand portfolio, producing advertising films and campaigns for a wide range of marquee clients across categories.

Expressing shock and disbelief over the untimely demise of Jerald Packiasamy, veteran advertising creative, filmmaker and writer Titus Upputuru, Founder and CCO of The Titus Upputuru Company, recalled his association with Packiasamy with deep affection. “Jerald was such a lovely person to work with—so humble and peaceful. His company’s name, Still Waters, was truly a reflection of who he was: always calm. I enjoyed working with him on Honda Two Wheelers’ first corporate film in India, If You Are Happy and You Know It. Later, we also collaborated with Jerald and Preeti on the Canon Printers campaign. He was always pleasant, passionate, and deeply committed. He will be truly missed,” Upputuru said, offering his heartfelt condolences to Preeti and the family.
Colleagues recall Jerald as a filmmaker who combined creative integrity with a deep understanding of brand narratives, leaving behind work that continues to inspire younger creatives and filmmakers.
He is survived by his family. The industry has expressed its condolences to his loved ones, friends, and colleagues, remembering him not only for his creative achievements but also for the quiet dignity with which he conducted his professional life.
