Super Chennai unveils ‘Super Chennai Manifesto 2026’ to build a global, resilient and future-ready city
Share Share ShareShare

Mumbai: Super Chennai, a citizen-led city branding and civic engagement movement, has unveiled the Super Chennai Manifesto 2026, a comprehensive blueprint titled “Super Chennai Compact: For a Global, Resilient City.” The manifesto presents a structured and data-driven roadmap aimed at positioning Chennai among the world’s most competitive, sustainable and culturally confident urban centres.

The initiative marks the evolution of Super Chennai from a city dialogue platform into a structured civic movement. The manifesto consolidates recommendations gathered during the Super Chennai Conclave and through extensive citizen outreach programmes, bringing together insights from senior bureaucrats, urban planners, industry leaders, sustainability experts and cultural stakeholders. The framework is designed to move beyond discussion towards measurable implementation through policy engagement and collaborative governance.

The Super Chennai Manifesto 2026 outlines a multi-dimensional strategy focused on transparency, infrastructure modernisation, economic acceleration, sustainability and inclusive growth. Among its key proposals are a digitally transparent civic governance system with open data and ward-level performance dashboards; integrated urban planning using digital twins and AI-driven systems; and a “30-minute city” mobility framework that integrates bus, metro and suburban rail networks while improving traffic optimisation.

The blueprint also prioritises pedestrian-friendly urban design, child-safe and universally accessible public infrastructure, and a climate-resilient coastal strategy that includes stormwater management, water security planning and flood-resilient zoning. In addition, the manifesto envisions Chennai emerging as a green industrial and AI innovation hub, supported by renewable-energy-driven data centres and advanced technology ecosystems.

Economic growth and entrepreneurship form another pillar of the framework, with plans to strengthen Chennai’s position as a hub for Global Capability Centres, deep-tech innovation and startups. The manifesto also proposes inclusive economic policies such as gender parity in workforce participation, entrepreneurship support for underrepresented communities and expanded skill development initiatives.

Tourism, culture and global storytelling are equally emphasised, with proposals including the development of a 24-hour visitor economy, recognition of the East Coast Surf Corridor, streamlined film production permissions and initiatives to position Chennai’s cultural identity and innovation on the global stage.

Speaking at the launch, Ranjeeth Rathod, Managing Director, Super Chennai, said, “Chennai is at an inflection point. We have the economic strength, cultural depth and intellectual capital to become one of the world’s most respected cities. The Super Chennai Manifesto 2026 is a citizen-led commitment to structured reform, measurable progress and long-term collaboration. This is not an event or a campaign — it is a sustained civic movement. We look forward to working closely with policymakers, institutions and citizens to translate this blueprint into action.”

The manifesto will be formally presented to policymakers and senior government officials as part of a structured engagement process aimed at collaborative implementation. Super Chennai also plans to organise thematic forums, policy roundtables and stakeholder consultations in the coming months to refine recommendations and track progress on the proposed reforms.
