Akshaya Tritiya 2026: High Gold Prices Reshape Buying Patterns, Not Demand
Share Share ShareShare

Mumbai: Akshaya Tritiya, one of India’s most auspicious occasions for buying gold, continues to reflect the enduring interplay between tradition, investment sentiment, and evolving consumer preferences. This year, even as gold prices remain elevated amid global uncertainties, jewellers across the country report resilient demand—albeit with a more nuanced consumer approach.

At its core, Akshaya Tritiya remains deeply symbolic. Rooted in the belief of eternal prosperity and new beginnings, the festival has historically driven strong jewellery purchases, particularly in gold. However, industry leaders suggest that 2026 is witnessing a subtle yet important shift in buying patterns.

Price Sensitivity Meets Tradition

Piyush Gupta, Director, PP Jewellers by Pawan Gupta notes that customer sentiment remains positive, though shaped by pricing realities. “Akshaya Tritiya has always been a special occasion for us, and this year too we are seeing a lot of interest from customers. It’s a time when people like to invest in something meaningful, especially gold, because of what it represents. At the same time, there’s a clear shift this year. With gold prices being on the higher side, many customers are also exploring silver jewellery. It’s becoming a preferred choice for those who still want to be part of the tradition, but in a more accessible way.”

He adds that retailers are responding by diversifying their offerings. “We have kept this in mind while curating our collections, offering a wide mix across both gold and silver. For the occasion, we are offering 5% off on making charges on gold bangles. With wedding season around the corner, we are expecting a strong and steady response.”

Shift Towards Meaningful, Design-Led Purchases

Mira Gulati, Director, Mirari Jewels highlights a deeper transformation in consumer intent, with buyers increasingly seeking jewellery that carries emotional and symbolic value. “For us, Akshaya Tritiya is not just about buying jewellery, but about what it stands for: belief, intention and a sense of connection. This year, with our ‘Devi’ collection, we wanted to bring that feeling closer to people. The pieces are inspired by the symbols of Goddess Lakshmi, reflecting prosperity, strength, and grace in a very subtle way.”

She further adds, “Each design carries a certain meaning, something that goes beyond how it looks. On an occasion like Akshaya Tritiya, jewellery becomes more personal. It’s not just about adding something new, but about choosing something that holds value in a deeper, more lasting way. We are also seeing that customers are showing more interest in pieces that have a story or meaning attached to them.”

Lightweight, Wearable Luxury Gains Ground

Prerna Khurana, Director, Khurana Jewellery House points to the growing preference for modern, versatile designs. “Akshay Tritiya is more than just a buying occasion, it is an emotion deeply rooted in tradition, prosperity and timeless belief.”

She explains the evolving consumer mindset, “While today’s consumer is evolving towards lightweight, wearable, and design-led gold jewellery, the intrinsic value of gold as a lasting investment continues to inspire strong demand.”

On the brand’s festive approach, she adds, “On this auspicious occasion, we at Khurana Jewellery House are delighted to celebrate our patrons with specially curated gifts, as they join us in embracing the spirit of new beginnings and enduring prosperity.”

Gold as a Timeless Investment Anchor

Ramesh Narang, Director, Hazoorilal Legacy underscores gold’s enduring cultural and emotional significance. “Akshaya Tritiya is a celebration of abundance in its most timeless form—where every gleam of gold carries the promise of prosperity, continuity, and grace. Revered across generations, gold is not merely an adornment, but a symbol of enduring legacy and cherished emotion.”

He adds, “At Hazoorilal Legacy, we honour this auspicious occasion with creations that embody refined craftsmanship and quiet opulence—pieces that feel as personal as they are exceptional. Each design is imagined to transcend time, weaving together tradition with a sense of modern luxury that remains approachable and intimate.”

Further highlighting the emotional connect, he says, “As new journeys begin on this sacred day, we are privileged to be part of these moments, offering jewellery that will be treasured not just for its beauty, but for the stories it carries forward.”

Outlook: Resilient Demand with Evolving Preferences

The broader outlook for Akshaya Tritiya 2026 suggests a market that is both resilient and adaptive. While macroeconomic factors such as gold price volatility may influence buying behaviour, they have not dampened the cultural importance of the festival.

Instead, the industry is witnessing:

  • A diversification of demand across gold and silver
  • Increased preference for lightweight and wearable designs
  • Rising interest in jewellery with symbolic and emotional value
  • Continued strength in wedding-driven purchases

As jewellers innovate across design, pricing, and storytelling, Akshaya Tritiya is evolving from a purely transactional event into a more layered consumer experience—one that blends tradition with modern sensibilities.

In essence, while the gleam of gold continues to anchor the festival, the way consumers engage with it is becoming more thoughtful, personal, and reflective of changing lifestyles.
