Kochi: Federal Bank has announced the appointment of Elias George as the Part-time Chairman of the Bank following approval from the Reserve Bank of India. He assumed charge with effect from May 23, 2026, for a tenure of three years.
Elias George had been serving as an Independent Director on the Board of the Bank since September 5, 2023. His appointment comes with extensive experience spanning public administration, infrastructure development, governance, and consulting.
George holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Naval Architecture and Ship Building from the University of Kochi and a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Administration with specialisation in International Economic Relations from the Institute International Administration Publique (IIAP), Paris. He has also attended management development programmes in India and the United States, including at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
A distinguished Indian Administrative Service officer, George served across various Union Ministries and in the Government of Kerala, with a focus on infrastructure creation, financing, and public utility management. During his tenure in public service, he held several key leadership roles including Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Kerala, CEO of the Kochi Metro Rail project, and Chairman of the Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority.
Following his retirement from the IAS, George joined KPMG as Senior Partner, where he led the Infrastructure, Government, and Healthcare vertical with a team of more than 1,000 consultants.
