Mumbai: In a strategic fusion of entertainment and sports, JioStar, the joint broadcast property of Star Sports and JioHotstar, has roped in Bollywood icon Aamir Khan for a special appearance during the TATA IPL 2025 Play-offs, aiming to boost viewer engagement and expand crossover appeal.
The superstar will feature in the pre-match coverage of Qualifier 2 (June 1) and the Final (June 3), accompanied by actress Genelia D’Souza and the cast of his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par. In a unique move, Aamir Khan will also don the commentator’s headset for live match analysis—marking a rare crossover from cinema to the commentary box.
This collaboration signals a continued evolution of sports broadcasting in India, where cricket entertainment (cricketainment) plays a pivotal role in enhancing viewer stickiness and broadening audience demographics.
“Nothing matches the energy and stakes of the TATA IPL Play-offs,” said Aamir Khan. “I’m quite excited to be at JioStar’s studios for these crucial games. Personally, I think both matches are going to be a cracker.”
Khan will offer match predictions, game insights, and even participate in on-air cricket activities, sharing the stage with a panel of IPL legends and former champions. The partnership is seen as a win-win for broadcasters and film marketers, offering massive exposure for Sitaare Zameen Par ahead of its release.
Coverage of the TATA IPL Play-offs runs from May 29 to June 3, available exclusively on Star Sports Network and JioHotstar. Aamir Khan’s special segments will air on June 1 and June 3.
