Ad space per print publication in H1 of 2024 grew by 5% compared to H1 of 2023: Tam

MUMBAI: Ad Space per print publication in H1 of 2024 grew by 5% compared to H1 of 2023. Education sector topped with 19% share of ad space followed by Services with 15% share during Jan-June 2024. Four out of the Top 10 categories were from Education sectors. Maruti Suzuki India topped the advertisers’ list followed by SBS Biotech. Samsung India moved to sixth rank in Jan-June 2024 compared to 30th in Jan-June 2024.

Honda Shine 100 was the top brand in print during Jan-June 2024 followed by Aakash Medical/IIT-JEE/Foundation. Cars saw the highest increase in ad space with a 25% growth during Jan-June 2024 compared to Jan-June 2023. Hindi and English language publications together contributed more than 60% share of ad volume during both Jan-June 2023-24. Sales promotion advertising covered 28% share of ad space in print during Jan-June 2024. 

Indexed Growth of Ad Space per Publications in Print

Ad Space in the first half of 2022-23 grew by 5% and 11% compared to same period of 2022 respectively.

In H1 2024, ad space increased by 5% over the corresponding period in 2023.

Leading Sectors: The Education sector topped the list in Print

The top three sectors maintained their positions from Jan-June 2024, consistent with their rankings in the same period in 2023.

The top five sectors together accounted more than 60% share of ad space in the print medium.

Telecom products was the only new entrant among the Top 10 sectors in the print medium

Advertising for category Cars topped during H1 2024

Top 10 categories together accounted 45% share of Ad Space in Print.

Four out of the top 10 categories moved up in ranking during Jan-June 2024.

Multiple Courses, Properties/Real Estates, Retail Outlets-Electronics/Durables, and Schools categories maintain their

respective ranks in H1 2024 compared to H1 2023.

Three out of the Top 10 categories were from Education sector and two from the Auto and Services sectors each.

Leading Advertisers: Top 10 of Jan-June 2024 saw two new advertisers

Similar to Jan-June 2023, Maruti Suzuki India led the list of advertisers in print, with SBS Biotech following in the same period of 2024.

Eight of the Top 10 advertisers from Jan-June 2023 were still in the Top 10 of Jan-June 2024.

The ranking of Samsung India Electronics and Kent Ro System shot up to the top 10 list of Jan-June 2024 compared to Jan-June 2023.

Leading Brands: Four brands in the Top 10 belong to the Education sector

Honda Shine 100 was the top brand in Print during Jan-June 2024 followed by Aakash Medical/IIT-JEE/Foundation.

During Jan-June 2024, there were total 105 K+ brands advertised in print.

Among the Top 10, three brands were from Auto Sectors and four from Education sector

Top Growing Categories: 280+ Categories registered Positive Growth

Cars saw the highest ad space growth i.e. 25% increase during Jan-June 2024 over Jan-June 2023.

In terms of growth %, Cellular Phones-Smart Phones category witnessed highest growth % among the Top 10 i.e. 2.9

Times in the Jan-June 2024.

Print: Publication Language during Jan-June 2024 and Jan-June 2023

Top 5 Publications remains same in both Jan-June 2023 and Jan-June 2024.

Hindi and English language publications together contributed more than 60% share of ad volume during both Jan-June 2023-24.

Ads with Sales Promotions: Jan-June 2024

Sales Promotion advertising covered 28% share of ad space in print during Jan-June 2024.

Among Sales Promotions, Discount Promotion was on top with 44% share of ad space followed by Multiple Promotion.

Top 2 promotions solely covered 85% share of Ad Space during year Jan-June 2024
