Mumbai: Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has appointed Akhil Mehra as its new Head of Commercial, marking a key leadership addition as the network sharpens its commercial strategy across television and digital platforms.
Mehra joins SPNI after a long tenure at Star TV Network, where he most recently served as Vice President – Commercial and Procurement for International Content, Kids and Infotainment. In his new role, he succeeds Mihir Sanghvi and will oversee SPNI’s commercial and procurement operations across its linear television and digital portfolios.
The appointment comes at a time when SPNI, under the leadership of CEO Gaurav Banerjee, is undertaking a broader leadership realignment aimed at consolidating revenue streams and strengthening integrated content and monetisation strategies amid an increasingly consolidating media and entertainment market.
Prior to his stint at Star TV Network, Mehra held senior roles across several leading organisations, including Tata AIG General Insurance Company Limited, Cholamandalam MS General Insurance Co. Ltd, and IFFCO Tokio General Insurance Co. Ltd. He began his career in 2002 as an Assistant Manager at IFFCO Tokio General Insurance Co. Ltd.
With over two decades of professional experience, Mehra brings deep expertise in strategic negotiations, innovation management, legal compliance, and commercial governance, along with strong communication and interpersonal capabilities, positioning him to play a pivotal role in SPNI’s next phase of growth.
